Full name: Gadopentetic acid or gadopentetate dimeglumine.

A chelate of the toxic paramagnetic metal Gadolinium, used as a contrast agent in MRI.

The chelating DTPA (for diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid) inhibits the toxic effects of the paramagnetic Gd(III) ions.

Gd-DTPA was the first MRI contrast agent to be approved for clinical use in 1988 (as Magnevist, traded by Bayer Schering Pharma).
