The School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) seeks a full-time (12 month) academic professional as Liquids NMR Spectroscopist. This position reports to the NMR Lab Director and is responsible for managing the use and maintenance of all instrumentation and equipment typically employed for liquids NMR in the School’s NMR Lab.

Major responsibilities: Assist the Director and users of the NMR Lab; Provide support and training on the operation of NMR instrumentation to all Lab users; Maintain all instruments; Perform troubleshooting and coordinate assistance with an electronics engineer provided by the Computer Electronics Electrical Services of the School; Supervise and assist in liquids NMR experiments for School students and faculty to obtain and process data and information needed to determine or evaluate chemical structure, composition or dynamics; includes sample handling and preparation advice, operating all liquids NMR instrumentation, and interacting with researchers; Management and use of Linux/Unix computer operating systems; Assist in the preparation of appropriate operational handouts for users.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required: Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with specialization in liquids NMR spectroscopy, or the equivalent experience in liquids NMR spectroscopy.

Experience:

Required: Prior experience equivalent to specialization in liquids NMR spectroscopy preferred (if specialization not obtained); Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills required to effectively work in a team environment. Strong skills in the use of Linux/Unix computer operating systems.

Preferred: Experience with Varian/Agilent NMR spectrometers strongly preferred. NMR hardware troubleshooting skills preferred; Some electronic troubleshooting skills preferred.

Knowledge: Required: Strong knowledge of the NMR of small organic molecules and familiarity with intermediate-size biomolecules; Strong knowledge of routine and specialized 1D and 2D liquids NMR.

Preferred: Familiarity with 3D and biomolecular NMR experiments strongly preferred.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting date: As soon as possible after closing date.
