A postdoctoral position is available immediately to use biomolecular NMR spectroscopy to study the dynamics of an enzyme important in bacterial virulence at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Missouri The project is funded by a prestigious new NSF grant and supplemental NIH funding.

About the project, facilities and the University

The project is poised for rewarding progress by the availability of virtually complete backbone assignments of the 463-residue phosphomannomutase, intriguing results on the ligand binding, enzymology and structural changes, and the high performance of a Bruker 800 MHz Avance III NMR spectrometer with TCI cryoprobe. 600 and 500 MHz spectrometers with cryoprobes are also available locally. 900 and 700 MHz spectrometers with cryoprobes are available remotely. The stimulating academic environment at the University of Missouri includes broad faculty, postdoctoral, and PhD student expertise in structural biology and biophysics.

The postdoctoral fellow will use NMR spectroscopy to study how internal motions and domain rotations might couple to the catalytic cycle of the 51 kD enzyme. Hypotheses of selected fit and coupling to the intermediate bound will be tested. The experiments include relaxation, RDCs, and various ligand interactions.

Candidate requirements

A PhD is required. Preference will be given to candidates with published or otherwise documented experience in biomolecular NMR. Experience and interests in enzymology, molecular biophysics, biophysical chemistry, and protein preparative work are also welcome.
