Position is open to U.S. Citizens only
The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, MD, USA is seeking a post doctoral scholar for a two year appointment in the field of Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy (MRFM).
About the project
The focus of the appointment will be MRFM based spectroscopy implemented via sample shuttling, see Eberhardt, et al. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2008, 47, pg. 8961. The first year of the project will involve protocol development to demonstrate shuttling based spectroscopy on GaAs using ARL’s existing MRFM system. The existing system is a 4 K vacuum based system with 5 mm of sample stage motion in each of three directions. Some modifications to the existing probe head’s RF subsystem and optical interferometers will be required. Using the modified system, the second year will be spent using solid state spectroscopy protocols developed by Chris Klug of NRL on bulk material specifically for MRFM.
This position is unclassified.
Candidate requirements
Some NMR experience will be useful but MRFM experience not required. US citizenship is required.
How to apply
Forward resume and three references, or questions to Dr. Doran Smith at 301-394-1918, ddsmith at arl.army.mil
