The main focus of the laboratory is to understand the assembly of RNA-protein complexes involved in histone pre-mRNA processing, translation initiation, and mRNA degradation. A variety of structural, biophysical, and biochemical methods are used in the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D in structural biology (biomolecular NMR or X-ray crystallography), be highly independent and motivated with an interest in studying problems in RNA-mediated gene expression. Prior experience with either one or more of the following: protein expression and purification, in vitro transcription and RNA purification, RNA-protein interactions, and RNA biochemistry is preferred. ==About the Hauptman-Woodward Institute== The Hauptman-Woodward Institute (HWI) is housed in a new 70,000 square-foot building located on the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus in downtown Buffalo, NY. This building is dedicated to research in structural biology and contains facilities for protein production, protein purification, crystal growth, and X-ray diffraction. The P.I. has access to a 600 MHz Varian Inova spectrometer housed at the adjacent Roswell Park Cancer Institute. HWI is home to a high-throughput screening laboratory for determining initial crystallization conditions using the microbatch-under-oil crystallization technique.
