The University of Manchester - School of Chemistry seeks candidates for a position of Research Assistant / Associate in NMR Spectroscopy.
Applications are invited for an EPSRC Research Associate to work with Dr Mathias Nilsson and Professor Gareth Morris on the development of techniques in diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY).
The project will combine high quality NMR measurements using world-class facilities in the School of Chemistry, theoretical analysis, pulse sequence development, and multivariate analysis, and offers an excellent opportunity for a suitable candidate to build a wide NMR skill set.
The successful candidate will implement, analyse, evaluate and apply a range of new NMR experiments in the field of matrix-assisted DOSY, working closely with Dr. Nilsson, Prof. Morris and other members of the research group. Equipment available includes Bruker and Varian spectrometers at 300, 400, 500 MHz field strengths.
The appointee will have, or be about to obtain, a doctoral degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science). They should possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to function efficiently as part of a team, and experience in and understanding of some or all of:
- NMR methods, especially DOSY and others involving pulsed field gradients
- Software for NMR data processing
- NMR spectrometer hardware
- Surface chemistry/chemical interactions
- Unix and C programming
- Mathematica and Matlab programming
The position is available from 1 May 2010 for up to 36 months.
Salary £28,983 - £35,646 per annum.
