  1. To carry out research and other duties in consultation with and under the guidance and direction of the PI. This will include addressing the objectives of the project, namely: 1. Express Arabidopsis UVR8 heterologously and determine whether it undergoes biophysical or biochemical changes following UV-B illumination; 2. investigate whether UVR8 tryptophan residues are involved in UV-B photoreception; 3. test the role of specific amino acids in the in vivo function of UVR8 using yeast and Arabidopsis.
  2. To write up research findings/outcomes for publication and decide on appropriate journals in consultation with the PI.
  3. To present data/findings at appropriate internal/national/international meetings.
  4. To collaborate with other members of the group, and external collaborators as appropriate, in order to develop the work of the group as a whole.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

  1. PhD or equivalent in relevant subject.
  2. Extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in field related to the research, e.g.: protein structure, protein biophysics, protein biochemistry, heterologous protein expression, molecular photobiology, molecular genetics, gene expression

Skills

Essential:

  1. Good interpersonal, writing and presenting skills.
  2. Extensive IT skills.
  3. Ability to assess and organise resources.
  4. Ability to communicate complex material clearly.
  5. Ability to use initiative and judgement to plan and progress work.

Experience

Essential:

  1. Typically 5 years research experience in related subject, with normally 1-2 years experience at a postdoctoral level, including independence illustrated by identification of project objectives from assessment of the literature, design and analysis of experiments, and drafting of papers and project proposals.
