Graduate student positions are available in structural biology in the laboratory of Dr. Natosha L. Finley, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, USA. The primary focus of the lab is characterizing the structure and function of cardiac muscle proteins using solution NMR spectroscopy, circular dichroism, isothermal calorimetry, and dynamic light scattering.
The project and the Lab
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to study the structure, dynamics, and binding kinetics of proteins involved in controlling cardiac muscle contraction, with an emphasis on deciphering the molecular determinants underlying the interactions of thick filament proteins such as myosin binding protein C. No experience is required, but an undergraduate/M.S. graduate background in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, biotechnology and recombinant protein expression/purification is highly desirable. Graduate student salary, tuition, and health insurance are supported by teaching and/or research assistantships.
Dr. Finley’s research program is part of The Cellular, Molecular, and Structural Biology (CMSB) Program and The Department of Microbiology at Miami University, both of which offer highly collaborative research environments for studies in structural biology. Miami University has a state-of-the-art high field magnetic resonance facility, which includes 600 and 850 MHz NMR spectrometers.
