About Novartis BioMedical Research Institutes

“There is no greater privilege than to work towards bettering human health, and no more exciting arena in which to do so than through discovery of new medicines.” -- Mark C. Fishman, President, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research

At Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the global research organization of Novartis, we are committed to discovering innovative medicines to cure disease and improve human health. By hiring the best academic, biotech, and pharmaceutical trained scientists, we have fostered an atmosphere for drug discovery where innovation is rewarded. It is ultimately the talent of the individual that determines our success, while our state-of-the-art technologies and resources enable these ideas to be realized.

NIBR has sites in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Emeryville, CA; Basel, Switzerland; Horsham, UK; and Shanghai, China.

The candidate will join a state-of-the art protein structure unit at the NIBR Cambridge campus as part of the protein NMR team. Core responsibilities will include sample preparation logistics and data collection to support both fragment based drug discovery and HTS hit validation. In addition, the candidate will participate in the maintenance and incorporation of new technologies to support these efforts. Opportunities for scientific growth in the interpretation and design of experiments will be available. The successful candidate will have demonstrated successes in working in a collaborative, multidisiplinary environment. Candidates with experience in protein chemistry, automation technologies, and/or Linux computer environments will be at a decided advantage.

B.S/M.S. or equivalent in biochemistry or a related discipline with at least 2 years of research laboratory experience. Experience in protein handling/characterization and laboratory automation is required. Attention to detail, an ability to work independently, and multitasking skills are expected. Experience with NMR spectroscopy and/or biophysical characterization of proteins and computational skills would be a decided asset. The candidate must possess good oral and written communication skills and should be able to function well in a matrix managed environment.Excellent presentation and communication skills (essential).
