A Global Chemical Company - manufacturer of specialty and intermediate chemicals - is searching for a Senior Analytical Chemist.

The company reported record third quarter and year-to-date results for the period ended September 30, 2009, has completed the pre-registration of 100's of substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in support of its global specialty chemicals business.

Job Description

This position will be the lead NMR expert providing training and advice on key NMR techniques, theory, interpretation, innovation, troubleshooting, etc. Responsibilities will include serving on a variety of project teams as the key analyst providing results and expert advice to accelerate new product/technology, development processes, and help resolve technical roadblocks and problems. This position is also expected to conceive of and work on process improvement opportunities as well as assigned improvement projects to reduce turnaround time and cost and/or enhance quality and efficiency. Will work primarily in the laboratory developing and implementing methodology, executing project strategy and driving key projects to completion as well as training and mentoring other chemists. Requires both interpretation of data as well as the design of new experiments. Though the expectation is that an individual will be stronger in 1 or the other, the person needs exposure to both functions.

In addition to the required technical experience & education, the successful candidate will be

  • safety focused with both technical and chemical expertise.
  • Good organization, communication, documentation and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Outstanding leadership, team building skills and a strong work ethic are also required along with analytical instrument expertise and computer proficiency.

Required Experience

  • A Masters degree in Chemistry is required for this position, a PhD is highly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in participating in and driving team-based projects to completion is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have five to ten years of industrial experience as well as in-depth knowledge of NMR spectroscopy.
  • Additionally, the candidate needs to have some people skills to interface with customers.
  • Finally, the person needs to have the practical element of business, rather than just the research mentality.
